Origin & Breeding History: 'PEQZ0077' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder, Ronald Snijder, in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands in July 2015. The cross was made between the female parent, a proprietary seedling designated as 'PEZ-AZ3272-07', and the male parent, a proprietary seedling designated as '11063-1'. The resultant seed was sown in December 2015. A single unique seedling was selected in May 2016 based on plant growth habit, flower colour, flower type and tolerance to heat and drought.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'PEQZ0077' was conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora in St. Thomas, Ontario during the summer of 2021. The trial included 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 22, 2021. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 16, 2021. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
