Origin & Breeding History: 'Alexandre' is a naturally occurring mutation, discovered by the breeder and owner of Les Jardins André Carbonneau in Louiseville, Quebec, Canada. The variety was discovered and selected from a single side shoot having a non-variegated light green leaf blade taken from cuttings of the variegated variety 'Crystal Palace Gem' growing in the greenhouse in January 2017, in Louiseville, Quebec. The variety 'Alexandre' was selected based on the uniform leaf blade colour, plant vigour and growth habit. Asexual reproduction of 'Alexandre' was first conducted in a controlled environment in May 2017.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Alexandre' was conducted in a greenhouse at Les Jardins André Carbonneau in Louiseville, Quebec, Canada during the summer of 2023. The trial included a minimum of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 16.5 cm pots in April 2023. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on July 12, 2023. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
