Summary: The foliage of the plants of ‘PEQZ0093' is taller than that of ‘Fistaneon'. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the middle third of the peduncle of the inflorescence of ‘PEQZ0093' is medium to strong while that of ‘Fistaneon' is weak. The conspicuousness of the zone on the leaf blade of ‘PEQZ0093' is medium whereas it is weak for ‘Fistaneon'. The largest flower of the inflorescence of ‘PEQZ0093' is larger than that of ‘Fistaneon'.

INFLORESCENCE: medium number of open flowers
PEDICEL: strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration on upper third, no swelling
SEPAL: absent or weak reflexing, absent or very weak to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration at middle of broadest sepal
FLOWER: double type, few to medium number of petals, concave in cross-section in lateral view, no irregularly distributed stripes or blotches
UPPER PETAL: spatulate shape, entire margin at apex
UPPER PETAL (INNER SIDE): margin and middle are medium purple red (closest to but much deeper red than RHS N57A), absent or very weak conspicuousness of stripes only, large orange red zone at base

Origin & Breeding History: ‘PEQZ0093' originated from a cross conducted between two proprietary seedlings, the female parent designated as ‘PEZ-AZ3272-01V' and the male parent designated as ‘10301-1V' in California, USA, in July 2015. The resultant seed was sown in December 2015. The new variety was selected in May 2016 based on plant growth habit, umbel size, foliage colour, flower colour and type.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘PEQZ0093' was conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario during the spring of 2024. The trial included 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 26, 2024. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 7, 2024. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
