Variety used for comparison: 'PEQZ0017' (Calliope Medium Pink Flame)

Summary: The leaf blade of 'PEQZ0100' is larger than that of ‘PEQZ0017'. The margin of the inner side of the upper petal of 'PEQZ0100' is dark blue pink while that of ‘PEQZ0017' is medium blue pink. The middle of the inner side of the upper petal of 'PEQZ0100' is medium purple red while that of ‘PEQZ0017' is medium blue pink. The spot on the inner side of the upper petal of 'PEQZ0100' is dark red while that of ‘PEQZ0017' is medium purple red. The margin of the inner side of the lower petal of 'PEQZ0100' is dark blue pink while that of ‘PEQZ0017' is medium blue pink. The middle of the inner side of the lower petal of 'PEQZ0100' is dark blue pink while that of ‘PEQZ0017' is medium blue pink.

FLOWER: single type, free to touching arrangement of upper petals in relation to lower petals, concave to flat in cross-section in lateral view, no irregularly distributed stripes or blotches
UPPER PETAL: spatulate shape, entire margin at apex
UPPER PETAL (INNER SIDE): margin is dark blue pink (closest to RHS 67C), middle is medium purple red (RHS N57A), medium conspicuousness of stripes and dark red spot/spots (closest to RHS 45A), largest spot is large, medium sized white to red pink zone at base
UPPER PETAL (OUTER SIDE): medium blue pink (closest to RHS 63C)

Origin & Breeding History: 'PEQZ0100' originated from a cross conducted between two proprietary breeding lines, the female parent designated as '11599-1V' and the male parent designated as ‘PEIB1012-1V', in California, USA in July 2016. The resultant seed was sown in December 2016. The new variety was selected in May 2017 based on plant growth habit, plant vigour, foliage colour, flower colour and type.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'PEQZ0100' was conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario during the spring of 2024. The trial included 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 26, 2024. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 7, 2024. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
