PLANT: medium to tall
STEM: medium length, no shortened internodes on upper part, medium to long internodes on primary side shoots
NODE: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, weak to medium density pubescence

LEAF BLADE: medium to long, medium to broad, medium intensity of green on upper side, ovate shape, medium to strong undulation of margin, strong blistering, moderately concave in cross-section, medium glossiness on upper side

FLOWER: early to mid-season flowering, semi-drooping peduncle, anthocyanin colouration present in anthers

FRUIT (BEFORE FIRST COLOUR CHANGE): medium intensity of green, anthocyanin colouration present
FRUIT (AFTER FIRST COLOUR CHANGE): matures mid-season, drooping attitude, short to medium length, broad to very broad diameter, medium length/diameter ratio, square in longitudinal section, angular in cross-section, absent or very weak sinuation of pericarp at basal part, absent or very weak sinuation of pericarp excluding basal part, smooth or very slightly wrinkled surface texture, light to medium red, medium to strong glossiness, medium depth of stalk cavity, moderately depressed apex, shallow to medium interloculary grooves, equally three and four locules, thick flesh, medium to thick stalk, stalk medium in length, non-enveloping calyx, no capsaicin in placenta

Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'Maduro' originated from a controlled cross between two unnamed proprietary seedlings, the female parent 'OP2023' and the male parent 'OP1745', at Enza Zaden Seed Operations B.V. in Enkhuizen, Netherlands in July 2009. The hybrid 'Maduro' was first observed in 2010. 'Maduro' was then included in hybrid screening trials in 2011. The selection criteria and objectives of the breeding program were to develop a new sweet pepper variety that produces large colourful fruit with disease resistance.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Maduro' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20132113, purchased from the Naktuinbouw, in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trials were conducted by the Raadvoorplantenrassen in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2013 and 2014.
