The hybrid 'Maduro' was first observed in 2010. 'Maduro' was then included in hybrid screening trials in 2011. The selection criteria and objectives of the breeding program were to develop a new sweet pepper variety that produces large colourful fruit with disease resistance.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Maduro' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20132113, purchased from the Naktuinbouw, in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trials were conducted by the Raadvoorplantenrassen in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2013 and 2014.
