Summary: The leaf blade of 'KL1117mut1' has a broad acute apex while that of 'Sunsurf Skyatsu' has an obtuse apex. The pedicel of 'KL1117mut1' is shorter than that of 'Sunsurf Skyatsu'. The upper third of the pedicel of 'KL1117mut1' has an absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of 'Sunsurf Skyatsu' has a medium to strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The sepal of 'KL1117mut1' is smaller than that of 'Sunsurf Skyatsu' and narrower than that of 'Keilavbu'. The flower of 'KL1117mut1' is salverform shaped and narrower than that of both reference varieties, which are funnelform shaped. The flower of 'KL1117mut1' has a medium degree of lobing while the flower of 'Sunsurf Skyatsu' has a strong degree of lobing. The inner side of the flower of 'KL1117mut1' is blue violet while that of 'Sunsurf Skyatsu' is darker blue violet. At the transition to the corolla, the inner side of the corolla tube of 'KL1117mut1' is white while the inner side of the corolla tube of 'Sunsurf Skyatsu' is light blue violet.

Origin & Breeding History: 'KL1117mut1' originated from a naturally occuring whole plant mutation of 'Supertunia White Improved' discovered by the breeder on September 10, 2015 at a propagation greenhouse in Alajuela, Costa Rica. 'KL1117mut1' was selected based on its plant growth habit, floriferousness, flower colour and tolerance to heat and drought. 'KL1117mut1' was first propagated by vegetative cuttings in September 2015 in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'KL1117mut1' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2019 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 8, 2019. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on May 23, 2019. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
