Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Littletunia Bicolor Illusion' and 'BBTUN91601' (Supertunia Lovie Dovie)

Summary: The plants of 'PEHY0076' are shorter than those of both reference varieties. The shoots of 'PEHY0076' are shorter than that of both reference varieties. The flowers of ‘PEHY0076' are narrower than that of ‘BBTUN91601' and wider than those of ‘Littletunia Bicolor Illusion'. The inner side of the corolla of ‘PEHY0076' is medium purple with a large area of white secondary colour, whereas that of ‘BBTUN91601' is white with a medium sized area of medium purple secondary colour and that of ‘Littletunia Bicolor Illusion' is dark purple with a small area of white secondary colour.

Description:

PLANT: upright to spreading growth habit

LEAF BLADE: ovate shape, acute apex, no variegation, medium green

PEDICEL: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER: single type
COROLLA: degree of lobing ranging from medium to strong, weak to medium degree of undulation
COROLLA (INNER SIDE): conspicuousness of veins ranging from absent to weak, greenish veins, dark purple (closest to RHS 61A) when newly opened, medium purple (closest to RHS 61B) when fully opened and aged, large area of white (closest to RHS NN155D) secondary colour along mid-veins of corolla lobe, absent or few number of flowers with different size of area of secondary colour
COROLLA LOBE: cuspidate to rounded apex
COROLLA TUBE (INNER SIDE): dark violet (closest to RHS 79C-D), medium conspicuousness of veins
COROLLA TUBE (OUTER SIDE): dark violet (closest to RHS N77C)
ANTHER: light blue polle

Origin & Breeding History: 'PEHY0076' originated from a naturally occurring mutation of the Petunia variety ‘PEHY0044' discovered at Syngenta Seeds B.V., Enkhuizen, Netherlands in June of 2018. 'PEHY0076' was selected in December of 2018 in Enkhuizen based on plant growth habit, flowering time, flower colour and flower size.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'PEHY0076' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2024 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15.2 cm pots on April 13, 2024. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants on May 30, 2024. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
