Varieties used for comparison: 'Sanguna Patio Radiant Dark Blue' and 'Sanguna Radiant Blue'
Summary: The plants of ‘INPETTIABL' are upright to spreading whereas those of ‘Sanguna Patio Radiant Dark Blue' are upright. The plants of ‘INPETTIABL' are shorter than those of ‘Sanguna Patio Radiant Dark Blue'. The leaves, calyx lobes and flowers of ‘INPETTIABL' are smaller than those of both reference varieties.
Description:
PLANT: upright to spreading growth habit
LEAF: elliptic shape, obtuse apex, no variegation, medium to dark green on upper side
PEDICEL: anthocyanin colouration ranging from weak to medium
FLOWER: single type, weak to medium degree of lobing
COROLLA LOBE: medium to strong undulation, very weak conspicuousness of greenish and purple veins, cuspidate apex
COROLLA LOBE (INNER SIDE): dark violet (RHS 86A) to medium blue violet (RHS N82B) towards center when newly opened, mainly medium blue violet (RHS N87A) to medium violet (RHS N81A) when fully opened, large area of white (RHS 155C) secondary colour at transition to corolla tube, medium blue violet (RHS N87A) to white (RHS NN155B-C) at center when aged
COROLLA TUBE: inner side medium blue violet (RHS 86C and N82B), medium conspicuousness of veins on inner side, outer side medium blue violet (between RHS N82B and N87B)
ANTHER: light blue pollen
Origin & Breeding History: ‘INPETTIABL' originated from a controlled cross between the female proprietary parental seedling designated ‘pt18-4301-3' and the male proprietary parental seedling designated ‘pt184313-8' conducted in Heidesheim, Germany in June of 2019. The new variety ‘INPETTIABL' was first selected in May of 2020 based on plant branching, leaf colour, flower colour and disease tolerance. Final selection for commercialization was made in May of 2022 in Heidesheim, Germany and asexual reproduction by cuttings was initiated in June of 2020.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘INPETTIABL' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2025 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm containers on April 5, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or part of plants, of each variety on May 13, 2025. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's T-tests. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
