Origin & Breeding History: 'SAKPXC017' (experimental designation K2013-J-228) originated from a hybridization conducted by the breeders in Kakegawa, Japan in December 2011. The hybridization was made between the female parent, a proprietary Petunia line named 'GY2-1E-6' and the male parent, a proprietary Calibrachoa line named 'AM9-83A-1B-2A'. In January 2012, embryo recue techniques were used to obtain thirty four ovules. In July 2012, five plants were successfully grown from the ovule culture procedure. A single plant was then selected based on flower colour, blooming vigour and plant growth habit. Further evaluations were conducted and in April 2013 the breeders confirmed that the new variety was distinct, uniform and stable. It was subsequently named 'SAKPXC017'.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'SAKPXC017' is based on the UPOV Report of Technical Examination, application number 2017/0730, purchased from Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany in 2018. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
