Origin & Breeding History: 'SAKPXC023' (experimental designation K2015-J-083) originated from a hybridization conducted by the breeder in Kakegawa, Japan in December 2013. The hybridization was made between the female parent, proprietary Calibrachoa line named 'AM10-4A-3A-1B-1A' and the male parent, proprietary Petunia line named '13Y-1'. From the resulting progeny, approximately seven seeds were obtained in December 2013 and sown and in a greenhouse in January 2014. In July 2014, the breeder selected a single plant based on its flower colour, blooming vigour and plant growth habit, and it was given the experimental designation 'K2015-J-083'. In August 2014, the selected plant was vegetatively propagated to produce root cuttings and evaluated in an open field. In November 2014, 'K2015-J-083' was found to be stable and field trials were further conducted in December 2014. The breeder confirmed that the new variety was uniform and stable and it was subsequently named 'SAKPXC023' in April 2015.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'SAKPXC023' is based on the UPOV Report of Technical Examination, application number 2018/0451, purchased from Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany in 2019. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
