Summary: 'Bartwentynine' has a bushier growth habit than 'Barfourteen'. The plant height of 'Bartwentynine' is shorter than 'Bareleven' and 'Barfourteen'. 'Bartwentynine' has a slightly wider plant than 'Barfourteen'. The leaf shape of 'Bartwentynine' is lanceolate while it is linear-subulate for 'Barfourteen'. 'Bartwentynine' has a shorter cyme with fewer florets than 'Bareleven' and 'Barfourteen'. 'Bartwentynine' has a white flower colour while it is pink in 'Bareleven' and purple in 'Barfourteen'.
Description:
'Bartwentynine' is a perennial phlox variety with an upright to bushy growth habit. The leaves are a simple type arranged in an opposite fashion. The leaf is lanceolate in shape with a leaf blade margin that is entire. There is no pubescence on the upper or lower side of the leaf blade. The upper side of the leaf blade is medium green.
There is one flowering period that is mid season. The flower type is a cyme inflorescence. The cyme is dome shaped. The round florets are white.
Origin & Breeding History: 'Bartwentynine' originated from a seedling selection of the cross 94.08 x 94.44.35.02 which took place in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands in 1995. The selection criteria was based on dwarf growth habit.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Bartwentynine' were conducted in the summer of 2005 at Genesis Plant Propagation Ltd., Langley, B.C. The trials consisted of 100 plants of each variety, each grown outdoors in 1 gallon pots.
