Origin & Breeding History: 'DPHLOX866' was bred and developed by the breeder, Gavriel Danziger, in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel. It originated from an open-pollinated cross that occurred in October 2011 between the female parent designated 'PH-9-1112' and an unknown male parent. From the resulting progeny, a single plant was selected in April 2012 based on its vigorous plant growth, good branching, extended flowering period and improved summer heat tolerance. 'DPHLOX866' was first asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in July 2012 in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'DPHLOX866' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2016 at BioFlora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. There were 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 10 cm pots on April 15, 2016. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on May 20, 2016. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
