Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Amazone'

Summary: 'PER975' is a poinsettia variety which has plants with more branching than the reference variety 'Amazone'. 'PER975' has wider leaves than 'Amazone'. The base of the leaf blade of 'PER975' is rounded to cordate, whereas the base of the leaf blade of 'Amazone' is wedged. The bracts of 'PER975' are a lighter orange pink colour overall than the bracts of 'Amazone'.

Description:

'PER975' is a poinsettia variety with no anthocyanin colouration on the stem. The leaves are broad ovate in shape with a rounded to cordate base. There is no anthocyanin colouration on the upper and lower sides of the leaf blade (including the veins). 'PER975' has weak lobe development on the leaf blades and no incisions of the margins. The sinuses between the lobes are rounded. The petiole has no anthocyanin colouration on the upper and lower sides.

'PER975' has orange pink bracts with pink speckles. The area on the bracts along the midrib and veins is yellow green. There is very weak lobe development in the outer bracts and the sinus between the lobes is rounded. The inner bracts have no lobe development. There are no incisions of the margin. There is moderate folding of the bracts, with no curving and slight to moderate twisting. The intensity of rugosity between the veins is medium. The largest bracts of 'PER975' are broad ovate in shape with a rounded base. 'PER975' has large greenish yellow glands of the cyathium, with no anthocyanin colouration on the margins of the glands.

Origin & Breeding History: 'PER975' was developed at the Paul Ecke Ranch, Encinitas, California in November, 1998. The variety was selected for its peach/pink bract colour and vigorous plant habit.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'PER975' were conducted in a greenhouse during the summer/fall of 2005 in St. Catharines, Ontario. The trial consisted of 15 plants of each variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings, transplanted into 6 inch pots on August 17, 2005. The pots were spaced 12 inches apart, from the pot center. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on December 1, 2005. All colour determinations were made using the RHS Colour Chart 2001.
