Summary: The plants of 'NPCW14221' are short whereas the plants of 'Duebelita' are medium to tall. The lobing of the transitional leaf of 'NPCW14221' is absent or weak whereas the lobing of the transitional leaf of 'Duebelita' is medium. The upper side of the bract of 'NPCW14221' is red whereas the upper side of the bract of 'Duebelita' is dark purple red to red. The lower side of the bract of 'NPCW14221' is red to dark purple red whereas the lower side of the bract of 'Duebelita' is dark purple red.

Origin & Breeding History: 'NPCW14221' was bred and developed by Guido von Tubeuf of Stuttgart, Germany. It originated from a controlled pollination conducted in November 2008, in Nairobi, Kenya, between the proprietary seedling designated 'EP 1995 0002', as the female parent, and the proprietary seedling designated 'EP 1995 0001', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, 'NPCW14221' was selected in October 2009, in Stuttgart, Germany, for its robust foliage, cyathia count, stem quality and flowering response time. 'NPCW14221' was selected in November 2012, in Stuttgart, Germany, for commercialization.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'NPCW14221' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2014/3340, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted at the University of Aarhus in Aarslev, Denmark, in 2015 and 2016. The colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
