'Accord' has red-violet flowers while 'Russet Burbank' has white flowers. The tubers of 'Accord' have white skin while the tubers of 'Superior' have buff coloured skin and the tubers of 'Russet Burbank' have brown skin. 'Accord' has smoother skin texture than the reference varieties. 'Accord' has blue-violet anthocyanin on the light sprout while 'Superior' has red-violet anthocyanin.

Description:

'Accord' is a mid-season maturing potato variety which has an erect to semi-erect growth habit. 'Accord' produces a leaf type plant which is medium in height. The stems are medium in thickness and have weak anthocyanin colouration. Stem wings are weakly prominent and straight single. The stem nodes have medium swelling and no anthocyanin. 'Accord' produces a medium to high number of branches.

The leaves of 'Accord' are medium green in colour and have medium to strong pubescence on the lower surface. The leaf silhouette is medium. The leaf rachis has no anthocyanin on the top or bottom. The rachis has sparse pubescence on the top and bottom. The petioles have no anthocyanin and the stipules are medium in size. The terminal leaflets are medium ovate in shape with acuminate shaped tips and obtuse shaped, strongly asymmetrical bases. The margins of the terminal leaflets have weak to medium waviness. 'Accord' has four pairs of primary leaflets which are small to medium in size. They are medium ovate in shape with acuminate shaped tips and cordate shaped, strongly asymmetrical bases.

'Accord' produces a medium number of inflorescences per plant and a medium number of florets per inflorescence. The flower buds have medium to strong anthocyanin and are weakly persistent. When fully expanded, the flowers are red-violet in colour. There is medium anthocyanin on the inner side of the corolla. The corolla is medium to large in size with a weak to moderately prominent star. The calyx and peduncle have medium to strong anthocyanin colouration. The anthers are bright yellow in colour when the flower is fully expanded and are arranged in a narrow shaped cone. The stigma is capitate and medium green in colour.

The tubers of 'Accord' have white skin with no secondary colour. Skin texture is smooth and tuber shape is oval to oblong. Tuber eyes are shallow in depth, intermediate in number and predominantly apical in distribution. The eyebrows are slightly prominent. The tuber flesh is white in colour with no secondary colour. 'Accord' produces a high number of tubers per plant.

The light sprout of 'Accord' is ovoid in shape with weak pubescence and medium to strong, blue-violet anthocyanin colouration at the base. The light sprout tip habit is closed. The tip has weak pubescence and medium, blue-violet anthocyanin. The light sprout has a low frequency of root initials and weak protrusion of lenticels. The lateral shoots on the light sprout are short in length.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Accord' originated from a cross between 'Aminca' and VK 69-491, made in Rilland, The Netherlands in 1985.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Accord' were conducted at Summerside, P.E.I. in 1999. A randomized block design was used. There were four replicates per variety with four rows per replicate.
