Summary: The base of the lightsprout of 'Goldeye' has a very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration and dense pubescence whereas the base of the lightsprout of 'Agata' has an absent or very weak to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration and medium density pubescence. The tip of the lightsprout of 'Goldeye' has a very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration and sparse pubescence whereas the tip of the lightsprout of 'Agata' has a medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration and medium density pubescence. The anthocyanin colouration on the stem of 'Goldeye' is of medium extent and half way up the stem whereas it is absent for 'Agata'. The extent of anthocyanin colouration of the midrib on the upper side of the leaf of 'Goldeye' is weak whereas it is absent for 'Agata'. The leaflet from the second pair of lateral leaflets of 'Goldeye' is narrower than it is long whereas the leaflet of 'Agata' is as broad as it is long. The frequency of inflorescences per plant is low for 'Goldeye' whereas it is medium for 'Agata'. The extent of anthocyanin colouration of the peduncle is low to medium for 'Goldeye' whereas it is absent for 'Agata'.

Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'Goldeye' originated from a cross made in 2003 between 'Agria' as the female parent and 'Triplo' as the male parent at the Brunia's private breeding facility in Kraggenburg, The Netherlands. The resultant seed was planted in the greenhouse in Kraggenburg and from these, tubers were harvested and planted in the field during the spring of 2004. The variety was selected in 2004 for its agronomic characteristics and resistance to various diseases.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Goldeye' was conducted during the growing season of 2014 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single row with 60 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety.
