Variety used for comparison: 'Canberra'

Summary: The lightsprout of 'Rosagold' is medium sized with a medium number of root tips whereas the lightsprout of 'Canberra' is small with few root tips. The pubescence of the tip of the lightsprout is of medium density for 'Rosagold' whereas the pubescence is absent or very sparse for 'Canberra'. The extent of anthocyanin colouration on the stem of 'Rosagold' is medium whereas the extent is high for 'Canberra'. The upper side of the leaflet of 'Rosagold' is dull whereas the upper side of the leaflet of 'Canberra' has medium glossiness. At the apical rosette, the leaflet blade of 'Rosagold' is pubescent whereas the leaflet blade of 'Canberra' is glabrous. The plant of 'Rosagold' matures late whereas that of 'Canberra' matures mid-season. The tuber of 'Rosagold' is round in shape with dark yellow flesh whereas the tuber of 'Canberra' is oval in shape with light yellow flesh. The colour at the base of the eye of the tuber of 'Rosagold' is red whereas it is yellow for 'Canberra'.

Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'Rosagold' originated from a cross made in 1997 between 'Laura' as the female parent and 'Miriam' as the male parent as part of a private breeding program at the Agrico Research breeding facility in Bant, The Netherlands. The resultant seed was planted in a greenhouse in 1998 and from these, tubers were harvested and planted in the field at Agrico Research during the spring of 1999. The variety was selected in 1999 for its agronomic characteristics and resistance to various diseases.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Rosagold' was conducted during the growing season of 2014 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single row with 60 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety.
