Summary: The lightsprout of 'Yellow Glory' is ovoid in shape with a medium density of pubescence at the base and a medium number of root tips whereas the lightsprout of 'Banana' is spherical in shape with sparse pubescence at the base and few root tips. The tip of the lightsprout of 'Yellow Glory' has medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas the tip of the lightsprout of 'Banana' has a very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The extent of anthocyanin colouration of the stem of 'Yellow Glory' is low to medium along the entire stem whereas the extent is absent or very low at the base of the stem only for 'Banana'. The leaf of 'Yellow Glory' has a weak to medium presence of secondary leaflets whereas the leaf of 'Banana' has a medium to strong presence of secondary leaflets. The plant of 'Yellow Glory' is taller than that of 'Banana'. The extent of anthocyanin colouration of the flower bud and peduncle of 'Yellow Glory' is low to medium whereas the extent is absent or very low for 'Banana'. The tuber of 'Yellow Glory' is very long in shape with yellow skin and medium yellow flesh whereas the tuber of 'Banana' is long in shape with light beige skin and light yellow flesh.

Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'Yellow Glory' originated from a cross made in 1990 between '86Fueguina75' as the female parent and the 'Desiree p 12' as the male parent as part of a private breeding program at Papas Arco Iris Ltda. in Puerto Varas, Chile. The resultant seed was planted in 1995 in a greenhouse and from these, tubers were harvested and planted in the field in Puerto Varas during the spring of 1996. The variety was selected for its agronomic characteristics and resistance to various diseases.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Yellow Glory' was conducted during the growing season of 2014 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single row with 60 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
