Variety used for comparison: 'Anuschka'

Summary: The size of the lightsprout of 'Viviana' is small to medium in size whereas the lightsprout of 'Anuschka' is medium sized. The pubescence of the base of the lightsprout is sparse to medium for 'Viviana' whereas the pubescence is dense for 'Anuschka'. The lateral shoots of the lightsprout of 'Viviana' are short whereas the lateral shoots of 'Anuschka' are medium to long. The plants of 'Viviana' are taller than the plants of 'Anuschka'. The frequency of coalescence of the terminal and lateral leaflets of 'Viviana' is absent or very low whereas the frequency of coalescence is medium for 'Anuschka'. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the inner side of the corolla of 'Viviana' is medium whereas the intensity is weak for 'Anuschka'. In reaction to light, the tuber skin of 'Viviana' develops a strong to very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas the tuber skin of 'Anuschka' develops a medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Viviana' originated from a cross conducted in 2000 between the selections designated 'BD 160/4/93' and 'E 96/22/53'. It was selected in Ebstorf, Lower Saxony, Germany, in 2002 for its positive agronomic characteristics.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Viviana' was conducted during the growing season of 2015 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 18.5 metre long row containing 60 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
