Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: 'Norland'
Summary: The lightsprout of 'Jeannette' is medium sized whereas the lightsprout of 'Norland' is large. In relation to the base of the lightsprout, the size of the tip is small for 'Jeannette' whereas it is medium sized for 'Norland'. The pubescence on the tip of the lightsprout of 'Jeannette' is of medium density whereas it is dense for 'Norland'. The extent of anthocyanin colouration is medium along the entire stem of 'Jeannette' whereas the extent is low and only halfway up the stem for 'Norland'. The waviness of the margin of the leaflet of 'Jeannette' is medium whereas it is absent or very weak to weak for 'Norland'. The glossiness on the upper side of the leaflet is dull to medium for 'Jeannette' whereas it is glossy for 'Norland'. The plants of 'Jeannette' are taller than those of 'Norland'. The frequency of inflorescences per plant is low to medium for 'Jeannette' whereas the frequency is absent or very low to low for 'Norland'. The plants of 'Jeannette' mature late to very late in the season whereas the plants of 'Norland' mature early in the season. The tuber flesh of 'Jeannette' is medium yellow whereas it is white for 'Norland'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Jeannette' originated from the cross between 'Charlotte' and 'Franceline' conducted at la Station de Recherche du Comité Nord in Bretteville du Grand Caux, France, in 1990. The resulting seed was sown and the resulting tubers field planted in Bretteville du Grand Caux, France, in 1998. One of the progeny, designated as 'Jeannette', was identified in 1998. Selection criteria was based on negative mass selection for agronomic characteristics and disease resistance.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Jeannette' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2018 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. The mean difference was significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
