Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'Adirondack Red' and 'Congo'
Summary: At the base of the lightsprout, 'AAC Cinderella' has very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas it is strong for 'Adirondack Red'. The proportion of blue at the base of the lightsprout is medium for 'AAC Cinderella' whereas the proportion of blue is low for 'Adirondack Red' and high for 'Congo'. The pubescence of the lightsprout is of medium density for 'AAC Cinderella' whereas it is dense for 'Adirondack Red'. The lightsprout of 'AAC Cinderella' has few root tips whereas the lightsprout of 'Adirondack Red' has a medium number of root tips. The extent of anthocyanin colouration on the stem is medium for 'AAC Cinderella' whereas the extent is high for both reference varieties. 'AAC Cinderella' has a small leaf outline whereas the reference varieties have a medium size outline. The second pair of lateral leaflets for 'AAC Cinderella' is small whereas it is medium for the reference varieties. 'AAC Cinderella' has a medium frequency of coalescence of the terminal and lateral leaflets whereas it is absent or very low for the reference varieties. The plant of 'AAC Cinderella' is shorter than that of the reference varieties. The frequency of inflorescences per plant is low for 'AAC Cinderella' whereas it is high for 'Congo'. 'AAC Cinderella' has small inflorescences whereas those of 'Adirondack Red' are medium sized and those of 'Congo' are medium to large. The extent of anthocyanin colouration of the peduncle is absent or very low for 'AAC Cinderella' whereas the extent is medium for the reference varieties. 'AAC Cinderella' has a small corolla whereas it is medium in size for the reference varieties. The shape of the tuber of 'AAC Cinderella' is very long whereas the tuber of 'Congo' has a long oval shape and that of 'Adirondack Red' has an oval shape. The tubers of 'AAC Cinderella' have a red skin whereas those of 'Congo' have a blue skin.

Origin & Breeding History: 'AAC Cinderella' (experimental designations 'AR2012-06_F06053' and 15247-22) originated from the cross of 'Congo' and PA99P20-2 made in 2004 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. In 2006, the progeny designated as 15247-22 was selected. Selection criteria were clonal selection for adaptation, tuber type, flesh colour and fresh market potential.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'AAC Cinderella' was conducted during the 2016 growing season at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Fredericton Research and Development Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of 2 replicates with 30 plants per variety in each replicate, grown in two 7.5 metre length rows spaced 90 centimetres apart. Plants were spaced 25 centimetres apart in the row. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on paired Student's t-tests.
