The leaf blade of 'Encore' is light green whereas the leaf blade of 'Whitney' is medium to dark green.
Description:

LIGHTSPROUT BASE: strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or low proportion of blue in anthocyanin colouration, very dense pubescence
LIGHTSPROUT TIP: medium sized in relation to base, intermediate between closed and open habit, medium to strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration, dense pubescence
PLANT: foliage structure is intermediate to leaf type were foliage is half open to closed and stems are partly to not or hardly visible, upright growth habit, matures early to mid-season
STEM: absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: medium size outline, open, light green on upper side, absent or very low extent and absent to very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on midrib of upper side, medium presence of secondary leaflets, absent or very low frequency of coalescence of terminal and lateral leaflets
SECOND PAIR OF LATERAL LEAFLETS: medium size, leaflet narrower than long
LEAFLET: weak waviness of margin, shallow to medium depth of veins, dull to medium glossiness of upper side, pubescent blade at apical rosette
INFLORESCENCE: medium frequency per plant, small to medium size
PEDUNCLE: absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER BUD: absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration
COROLLA: medium size, absent or very weak extent and absent to very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on inner side, absent or low proportion of blue in anthocyanin colouration on inner side
TUBER: short oval to oval shape, white flesh
TUBER EYE: shallow depth, yellow at base

Origin & Breeding History: 'Encore' originated from a cross between the variety 'Parella', as the female parent, and the variety 'Dakota Rose', as the male parent, conducted in 2006, at HZPC Holland B.V. in Metslawier, Netherlands. From the resulting progeny, 'Encore' was selected in 2007 based on yield, internal and external tuber quality as well as disease and insect resistances.
Tests & Trials: The comparative test and trial for 'Encore' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the growing season of 2017 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21.2 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. The mean difference was significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
