Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Elfe'

Summary: The lightsprout of 'Ivetta' is ovoid whereas that of 'Elfe' is broad cylindrical in shape. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the lightsprout of 'Ivetta' is strong at the base and of medium intensity at the tip whereas it is of medium intensity at the base and absent or very weak to weak at the tip of the lightsprout for 'Elfe'. In relation to the base of the lightsprout, the tip of the lightsprout is medium sized for 'Ivetta' whereas it is small for 'Elfe'. The tip of the lightsprout of 'Ivetta' has an intermediate habit whereas 'Elfe' has a closed habit. The extent of anthocyanin colouration on the stem of 'Ivetta' is absent or very low whereas the extent is low for 'Elfe'. The frequency of coalescence of the terminal and lateral leaflets is absent or very low for 'Ivetta' whereas the frequency is low for 'Elfe'. The plants of 'Ivetta' are taller than those of 'Elfe'. The anthocyanin colouration on the inner side of the corolla is of low to medium extent and of weak to medium intensity for 'Ivetta' whereas for 'Elfe', the extent of anthocyanin colouration on the inner side of the corolla is absent or very low and the intensity is absent or very weak.

Description:

LIGHTSPROUT: medium size, ovoid, few root tips, short lateral shoots
LIGHTSPROUT BASE: strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium proportion of blue in anthocyanin colouration, medium density of pubescence
LIGHTSPROUT TIP: medium size in relation to base, intermediate between closed and open habit, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium density of pubescence

PLANT: foliage structure is intermediate type where foliage is half-open and stems are partly visible, semi-upright growth habit, matures mid-season

STEM: absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration

LEAF: medium size outline, intermediate openness, weak to medium presence of secondary leaflets, light to medium green upper side, absent or very low extent and absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration of upper side of mid-rib, absent or very low frequency of coalescence of terminal and lateral leaflets
SECOND PAIR OF LATERAL LEAFLETS: medium size, leaflet is narrower than long
LEAFLET: weak waviness of margin, shallow to medium depth of veins, medium degree of glossiness on upper side, glabrous blade at apical rosette

PEDUNCLE: absent or very low to low extent of anthocyanin colouration
INFLORESCENCE: absent or very low to low frequency per plant, small to medium size
FLOWER BUD: absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration
COROLLA: small to medium size
COROLLA (INNER SIDE): low to medium extent of anthocyanin colouration, weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or low proportion of blue in anthocyanin colouration

TUBER: short oval to oval medium yellow flesh
TUBER EYE: shallow depth, yellow at base
TUBER SKIN: yellow, develops weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration in reaction to light

Origin & Breeding History: 'Ivetta' originated from a cross between 'L 98/961/195' and 'B98/222/122', conducted in 2003 in Ebstorf (Lower Saxon), Germany. From the resulting progeny, 'Ivetta' was selected, based on positive agronomic criteria, in 2004.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Ivetta' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2018 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. The mean difference was significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
