Summary: The lightsprout of 'Silverado' is medium sized and has an ovoid shape whereas the lightsprout of 'Russet Burbank' is small and spherical. The proportion of blue anthocyanin colouration at the base of the lightsprout of 'Silverado' is medium whereas it is absent or low for 'Russet Burbank'. The pubescence at the tip of the lightsprout of 'Silverado' is medium to dense whereas it is absent or very sparse to sparse for 'Russet Burbank'. The plants of 'Silverado' have an upright growth habit whereas the plants of 'Russet Burbank' have an semi-upright growth habit. The presence of secondary leaflets on the leaves of 'Silverado' is medium to strong whereas it is weak to medium for 'Russet Burbank'. At the apical rosette, the leaflet blade of 'Silverado' is glabrous whereas it is pubescent for 'Russet Burbank'. The tuber of 'Silverado' has a long oval shape with shallow eyes whereas the tuber of 'Russet Burbank' is long with deep eyes.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Silverado' (experimental designation HZ-04-2047) originated from the cross between 'RZD 94-2545', as the female parent, and 'RZ-94-6820' as the male parent, conducted in 2003 at HZPC Research B.V., in Metslawier, The Netherlands. One of the progeny, designated as HZ-04-2047, was identified in 2004 and subsequently tested in The Netherlands and other locations abroad. Selection criteria was based on yield, internal and external quality as well as disease and insect resistance.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Silverado' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2018 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety.
