Summary: The lightsprout of 'Clairette' is ovoid in shape while that of 'Bintje' is spherical. The base of the lightsprout for 'Clairette' has sparse pubescence while that of 'Bintje' has a medium density of pubescence. In relation to the base, the lightsprout tip is small for 'Clairette' while it is medium in size for 'Bintje'. The lightsprout tip for 'Clairette' has an intermediate habit with sparse to medium pubescence while that of 'Bintje' has a closed habit with dense pubescence. The anthocyanin colouration of the stem is of a low extent for 'Clairette' while it is of a medium extent for 'Bintje'. The midrib on the upper side of the leaf for 'Clairette' has anthocyanin colouration of an absent or very low extent with absent or very weak intensity while that of 'Bintje' is of a low extent with weak intensity. The plants of 'Clairette' are shorter than those of 'Bintje'. The plants of 'Clairette' have a low frequency of inflorescences per plant while those of 'Bintje' have a medium to high frequency. The anthocyanin colouration on the inner side of the corolla for 'Clairette' is of a medium to high extent with medium intensity while that of 'Bintje' is of an absent or very low extent with absent or very weak intensity.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Clairette' (experimental designation G03TT007006) originated from the cross between 'Glenna' and 'Emeraude' conducted at Chateauneuf-du-Faou, France in 2002. The resulting seed was grown in a greenhouse. Tubers resulting from the subsequent 3 generations were placed in cold storage and visually assessed before being field planted for seed production. G03TT007006 was identified in 2007 as having passed initial selection criteria and was further assessed for pest resistance, yield, cooking and frying quality, dry matter content, storability and visual impression in France, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain and Germany from 2007 to 2010. In 2011 and 2012, the variety was further assessed as 'Clairette' for yield, agronomic traits, cooking quality and storability.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Clairette' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2018 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. The mean difference was significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
