Summary: The intensity of anthocyanin colouration at the tip of the lightsprout of 'Zina Red' is strong whereas it is of medium intensity for 'Canberra'. 'Zina Red' has a high extent of anthocyanin colouration along the midrib of the upper side of the leaf while the extent is very high for 'Canberra'. The second pair of lateral leaflets are medium sized for 'Zina Red' while they are large for 'Canberra'. The plants of 'Zina Red' are taller than those of 'Canberra'. The corolla of 'Zina Red' is large whereas it is medium sized for 'Canberra'. On the inner side of the corolla, the intensity of the anthocyanin colouration is strong for 'Zina Red' whereas it is of medium intensity for 'Canberra'. The tuber of 'Zina Red' has a long oval shape whereas the tuber of 'Canberra' has an oval shape. The colour at the base of the tuber eye of 'Zina Red' is red whereas it is yellow for 'Canberra'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Zina Red' (experimental designation STT 02-1664) originated from the cross between 'Symphonia', as the female parent, and 'Amorosa', as the male parent, conducted in 2001 at HZPC Research B.V., in Metslawier, The Netherlands. One of the progeny, designated as STT 02-1664, was identified in 2002 and subsequently tested in The Netherlands and other locations abroad. Selection criteria was based on yield, internal and external quality as well as disease and insect resistance.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Zina Red' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2018 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety.
