Origin & Breeding History: 'Crop55' (experimental designation 1419/2) originated from the cross between 'Laura', as the female parent, and 'Crop33', as the male parent, conducted at The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited, in Pukekohe, New Zealand, in 2005. The resulting seed was sown in 2006 and selected tubers field planted in 2007. Selections were made through 8 vegetatively propagated generations resulting in the identification of 1419/2 in 2015. Selection criteria were based on yield, tuber shape, size, skin colour and finish.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Crop55' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2018 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety.
