Summary: The lightsprout of 'Echo Russet' is ovoid in shape whereas the lightsprout of 'Goldrush' is broad cylindrical. The lightsprout tip of 'Echo Russet' has a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration and a medium density of pubescence whereas that of 'Goldrush' has a medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration and absent or very sparse to sparse pubescence. The lightsprout of 'Echo Russet' has a medium number of root tips whereas that of 'Goldrush' has few root tips. The stem of 'Echo Russet' has a low extent of anthocyanin colouration whereas the stem of 'Goldrush' has an absent to very low extent of anthocyanin colouration. The upper side of the midrib on the leaflet of 'Echo Russet' has a low extent of anthocyanin colouration whereas that of 'Goldrush' has an absent to very low extent of anthocyanin colouration. The upper side of the leaflet for 'Echo Russet' is dull whereas that of 'Goldrush' is medium to glossy. The inner side of the corolla for 'Echo Russet' has an absent to very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas that of 'Goldrush' has a weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The tuber of 'Echo Russet' has light beige skin whereas the tuber of 'Goldrush has reddish brown skin.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Echo Russet' (experimental designation AO96141-3) originated from a cross between A89222-3, as the female parent, and COA90064-6, as the male parent, conducted in 1996 at the Oregon State University's potato breeding and variety development program. In 1999, the seed resulting from the cross was sown in the greenhouse. The resulting tubers were harvested and planted in the field in 2000 in Powell Butte, Oregon, USA. 'Echo Russet' was selected in 2000 based on negative mass selection for agronomic characteristics and disease resistance.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Echo Russet' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2019 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row per variety. Each row contained 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart with an inter-row spacing of 0.9 metres.
