Summary: The lightsprout of 'AAC Intrepid Russet' is broad cylindrical in shape whereas it is ovoid for 'Russet Burbank'. The base of the lightsprout for 'AAC Intrepid Russet' has a medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration while those of 'Ranger Russet' and 'Russet Burbank' have a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The base of the lightsprout for 'AAC Intrepid Russet' has sparse pubescence while that of 'Russet Burbank' has a medium density of pubescence. The lightsprout tip for 'AAC Intrepid Russet' has an absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration while those of the reference varieties have a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The upper side of the leaf of 'AAC Intrepid Russet' is dark green while it is medium green for the reference varieties. The leaf of 'AAC Intrepid Russet' has a medium sized outline while those of the reference varieties have a large outline. The second pair of lateral leaflets are as broad as long for 'AAC Intrepid Russet' while they are narrower than long for the reference varieties. The plants of 'AAC Intrepid Russet' are shorter than those of the reference varieties. The corolla for 'AAC Intrepid Russet' has a high extent of strong intensity anthocyanin colouration with a medium proportion of blue while that of 'Russet Burbank' has an absent or very low extent of absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin with an absent or low proportion of blue. The plants of 'AAC Intrepid Russet' mature mid-season while those of 'Russet Burbank' mature late in the season. The tuber for 'AAC Intrepid Russet' has a long oval shape with shallow eyes while those of the reference varieties are long with eyes of medium depth.

Origin & Breeding History: 'AAC Intrepid Russet' (experimental designations AR2013-11, F08028 and 15377-13) originated from a cross made between the variety 'Frontier Russet' and experimental line F87070 conducted at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Fredericton Research and Development Centre, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in 2005. In 2006, the true potato seed resulting from the cross was sown in a greenhouse at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Fredericton Research and Development Centre and the resulting seedling tubers planted at the Benton Ridge Research Substation of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada near Woodstock, New Brunswick, in 2007. A clone designated as 15377-13 was selected in 2007 from a single hill trial based on vine maturity, tuber appearance, shape and size.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'AAC Intrepid Russet' was conducted during the 2019 growing season at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Fredericton Research and Development Centre, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of 2 replicates per variety arranged in a RCB design. Each replicate consisted of 40 plants in a 12 metre length row. The rows were spaced 90 centimetres apart and the plants were spaced 25 centimetres apart within the row. Measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. The mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
