Summary: The base of the lightsprout for 'AAC Eastern Russet' has a medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of 'Innovator' has a weak intensity of anthocyannin colouration. The base of the lightsprout for 'AAC Eastern Russet' has sparse pubescence while that of 'Innovator' has dense pubescence. The lightsprout tip for 'AAC Eastern Russet' is medium sized in relation to the base while it is small in relation to the base for 'Innovator'. The lightsprout tip for 'AAC Eastern Russet' has an intermediate habit while that of 'Innovator' has a closed habit. The lightsprout tip for 'AAC Eastern Russet' has a medium density of pubescence while that of 'Innovator' has dense pubescence. The upper side of the leaf of 'AAC Eastern Russet' is light green while that of 'Innovator' is medium green. The plants of 'AAC Eastern Russet' have a medium frequency of inflorescences while the plants of 'Innovator' have a high frequency of inflorescences.

Origin & Breeding History: 'AAC Eastern Russet' (experimental designations AR2017, F12022 and 16040-03) originated from a cross made between the varieties 'Innovator' and 'Tenace' conducted at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Fredericton Research and Development Centre, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in 2009. In 2010, the true potato seed resulting from the cross was sown in a greenhouse at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Fredericton Research and Development Centre and the resulting seedling tubers planted at the Benton Ridge Research Substation of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada near Woodstock, New Brunswick, in 2011. A clone designated as 16040-03 was selected in 2011 from a single hill trial based on vine maturity, tuber appearance, shape, size and flesh colour.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'AAC Eastern Russet' was conducted during the 2019 growing season at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Fredericton Research and Development Centre, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of 2 replicates per variety arranged in a RCB design. Each replicate consisted of 40 plants in a 12 metre length row. The rows were spaced 90 centimetres apart and the plants were spaced 25 centimetres apart within the row.
