The base of the lightsprout of 'Crop80' has a medium proportion of blue in the anthocyanin colouration while the base of the lightsprout of 'Crop77' has an absent or low proportion of blue in the anthocyanin colouration and that of 'Bintje' has a high proportion of blue in the anthocyanin colouration. The base of the lightsprout of 'Crop80' has a medium density of pubescence while that of 'Bintje' has sparse pubescence. The lightsprout of 'Crop80' has few root tips while that of 'Crop77' has a medium number of root tips. The stem of 'Crop80' has a low to medium extent of anthocyanin colouration along the entire stem while the stem of 'Crop77' has a low to medium extent of anthocyanin colouration halfway up the stem. The plants of 'Crop80' are taller than the plants of 'Crop77' and shorter than those of 'Bintje'. The plants of 'Crop80' have a medium frequency of flowers while those of 'Bintje' have a high frequency of flowers. The plants of 'Crop80' mature early to mid-season while the plants of 'Crop77' mature late in the seaon and those of 'Bintje' mature late to very late in the season. Origin & Breeding History: 'Crop80' (experimental designation 1413/3) originated from the cross between 'Summer Delight' as the female parent and 'Crop20' as the male parent conducted at the New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research Limited breeding station in Lincoln, New Zealand in 2005. One of the resulting progeny was selected and designated 1413/3 in 2014 based on yield, flesh colour, size and skin finish.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Crop80' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. in Central Blissville, New Brunswick during the 2023 growing season. The field trial consisted of a single 15.2 metre long row per variety. Rows were spaced 1.1 metres apart with each row containing 65 plants spaced 0.23 metres apart. Measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. The mean difference was significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. Lightsprout characteristics were assessed on 10 tubers harvested from the comparative trial and observed approximately 2.5 to 3 months after sprouting was promoted by exposing the tubers to an external agent.
