The cross was conducted between a selection designated as '87127' as the female parent variety and an unknown male parent variety. The new Potentilla variety 'Bailcitrus' was selected in 1995 based on flower type as well as foliage colour and appearance. Asexual reproduction of 'Bailcitrus' was first conducted in July 2010, by softwood cuttings, in Morden, Manitoba.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Bailcitrus' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring and summer of 2017 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 10 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 9 litre pots on May 15, 2017. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on September 3, 2017.
