Variety used for comparison: 'Mega Pazzaz Orange'

Summary: The stem of 'WGPORMT25' has a medium sized diameter with a weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of ‘Mega Pazzaz Orange' has a small diameter with a medium to strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The leaf blade of 'WGPORMT25' is shorter than that of ‘Mega Pazzaz Orange'. The corolla of 'WGPORMT25' has a smaller diameter than that of ‘Mega Pazzaz Orange'. The inner side of the corolla lobe of ' WGPORMT25' is mainly orange red with a medium yellow secondary colour at the base while that of ‘Mega Pazzaz Orange' is mainly medium red pink with a medium yellow orange secondary colour at the base. The outer side of the corolla lobe of 'WGPORMT25' is medium to dark orange with medium yellow at the base while that of ‘Mega Pazzaz Orange' is orange red with medium yellow at the base. The petals on the corolla of 'WGPORMT25' have an open to touching arrangement while those on the corolla of ‘Mega Pazzaz Orange' have an overlapping arrangement. The petal of 'WGPORMT25' is smaller than that of ‘Mega Pazzaz Orange'.

COROLLA LOBE (INNER SIDE): orange red (RHS 30A) with medium yellow (closest to RHS 12A) secondary colour at base
COROLLA LOBE (OUTER SIDE): medium to dark orange (RHS 30D-31B) with medium yellow (RHS 9A) at the base
PETAL: obovate in shape, emarginate apex

Origin & Breeding History: 'WGPORMT25' originated from a controlled cross conducted in June 2017 in Ticoplant, Alajuela, Costa Rica between two proprietary seedings, the female parent designated ‘POR-0200-02' and the male parent designated ‘POR-0088-06'. A single flowering plant was selected from the resulting progeny in September 2021, based on plant growth habit, plant vigour, flower colour, flower coverage, duration of flower opening during daylight hours and container and landscape performance. Asexual reproduction of 'WGPORMF25' was first conducted by cuttings in September 2021 in Mustang Ridge, Texas, U.S.A.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'WGPORMT25' was conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario during the summer of 2025. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 7, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on June 24, 2025. The mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart.
