Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: '07.09R.52'
Summary: The plant growth habit is upright for 'Adelita' whereas it is semi-upright for '07.09R.52'. During rapid growth, the intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the apex of the very young shoot is medium for 'Adelita' whereas the intensity is weak for '07.09R.52'. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the current season`s cane is medium to strong for 'Adelita' whereas it is weak for '07.09R.52'. The density of spines on the canes is sparse for 'Adelita' whereas the density is medium for '07.09R.52'. The predominant number of leaflets per leaf is equally three or five for 'Adelita' whereas it is three leaflets per leaf for '07.09R.52'. In lateral view, the shape of the fruit is conical for 'Adelita' whereas the shape of the fruit is broad conical for '07.09R.52'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Adelita' (experimental designation '07.09R.50') was bred by Alexandre Pierron-Darbonne as part of a breeding program at the Plantas de Navarra, Sociedad Anónima (S.A.) Sociedad Unipersonal, in Valtierra, Spain. It originated from a cross conducted in 2007 between a parental cultivar designated '07.09R.99', as the female parent, and a parental cultivar designated '07.13R.46', as the male parent. The resultant seedlings were placed into trials from 2008 to 2014 to assess their yield, fruit size and overall fruit production. 'Adelita' was selected in 2011 on the basis of its spine density, fruit abundance, fruit colour, and fruit size. 'Adelita' was further evaluated for uniformity and stability until 2012, and then subjected to official control trials conducted from 2012 to 2014. Asexual propagation of 'Adelita' was first conducted through the use of root cuttings in Segovia, Spain.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Adelita' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20111459, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Bundessortenamt, in Prüfstelle Wurzen, Germany, from 2013 to 2014.
