Summary: The plants of 'DrisRaspSeventeen' have a semi upright growth habit whereas both reference varieties have an upright growth habit. The very young shoot, during rapid growth, of 'DrisRaspSeventeen' has no anthocyanin colouration whereas both reference varieties have anthocyanin colouration. The pedicel of 'DrisRaspSeventeen' has a medium amount of spines whereas 'Maravilla' has absent or very few spines. The time of vegetative bud burst on the previous year's cane is mid to late season for 'DrisRaspSeventeen' whereas it is early for 'Maravilla' and early to mid-season for 'DrisRaspSeven'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'DrisRaspSeventeen' originated from a controlled cross between proprietary parent 'RB626.1' and proprietary parent 'RF399.3' conducted in Santa Cruz, California, USA in April 2010. The new variety 'DrisRaspSeventeen' was selected in May 2013 based on primocane and floricane yield, fruit flavor and sugar content. Asexual reproduction by root cuttings was initiated in Santa Cruz, County, California USA in July 2013.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'DrisRaspSeventeen' was conducted in Chilliwack, British Columbia during the 2023 growing season. Plants were transplanted in April 2021 into raised beds, covered with plastic mulch and irrigated with drip lines. The plots were arranged in a RCB design with four replicates. Each replicate consisted of 3 plants for a total of 12 plants of each variety. Plants were spaced approximately 90 centimetres apart within rows and 3 metres between rows. A total of 10 measurements were taken from each variety.
