Varieties used for comparison: 'Rafzaqu' and 'Advabertwee'
Summary: The dormant canes of 'MAR 501' are long whereas those of 'Advabertwee' are a medium length. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the peduncle of 'MAR 501' is very weak to weak whereas that on the peduncle of 'Rafzaqu' is medium.

PLANT: upright growth habit, medium to many current season's canes, bears fruit on previous season's cane in summer and on current season's cane in autumn, mid-season vegetative bud burst
VERY YOUNG SHOOT: very weak to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration of apex during rapid growth, medium to late emergence
FRUITING LATERAL: semi-erect attitude, long
CURRENT SEASON`S CANE: long, weak to medium bloom, strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration, short to medium internode length, medium length vegetative bud
DORMANT CANE: long, brownish purple
SPINES: sparse, small base, short, brownish purple
LEAF: medium to dark green upper side, predominantly five leaflets, medium rugosity, relative position of lateral leaflets is touching
LEAFLET: straight in cross-section
TERMINAL LEAFLET: long, medium to broad

Origin & Breeding History: 'MAR 501' originated from a cross between the female parent variety 'Paris' and an unknown male parent variety conducted in Soings-en-Sologne, France in 2012. The new variety 'MAR 501' was selected from the resulting progeny in 2013 based on the glossiness and firmness of the fruit.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'MAR 501' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2019/2298, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted at the Bundessortenamt in Wurzen, Germany from 2021 to 2022.
