PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, medium to many current season's canes, bears fruit on previous season's cane in summer and on current season's cane in autumn, early to mid-season vegetative bud burst
VERY YOUNG SHOOT: weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration of apex during rapid growth, mid-season emergence
FRUITING LATERAL: semi-erect attitude, long
CURRENT SEASON`S CANE: medium to long, very weak to weak bloom, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, short to medium internode length, medium length vegetative bud
DORMANT CANE: medium to long, purplish brown
SPINES: sparse, small to medium size base, short, purple
LEAF: medium green upper side, equally three and five leaflets, medium rugosity, relative position of lateral leaflets is touching
LEAFLET: straight in cross-section
TERMINAL LEAFLET: long, broad

Origin & Breeding History: 'MAR 502' originated from a cross between the female parent variety '08-25-3' and the male parent variety '12-02-8' conducted in Soings-en-Sologne, France in 2012. The new variety 'MAR 502' was selected from the resulting progeny in 2013 based on the glossiness and firmness of the fruit.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'MAR 502' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2019/2300, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted at the Bundessortenamt in Wurzen, Germany from 2021 to 2022.
