Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'PBBRSP 1381' and 'Gioiosa SO'

Summary: The time of cane emergence for ‘BT Rasfour' is early season while that of ‘Gioiosa SO' is mid season. The current season's cane of ‘BT Rasfour' hasa medium to strong degree of bloom while that of ‘PBBRSP 1381' is weak. The peduncles of ‘BT Rasfour' have a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration while those of ‘PBBRSP 1381' are medium to strong. The pedicels of ‘BT Rasfour' have very few to few spines while those of ‘Gioiosa SO' have a few to medium number of spines.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, many current season canes

VERY YOUNG SHOOT: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration of apex during rapid growth
CURRENT SEASON'S CANE: medium to long , medium to strong degree of bloom, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, short to medium length of internode, short to medium length of vegetative bud, early emergence
DORMANT CANE: brown
SPINES: sparse to medium density, small to medium size, short, brownish purple

LEAF: medium to dark green upper side, equally three to five leaflets, medium rugosity, relative position of lateral leaflets is free
LEAFLET: straight in cross-section
TERMINAL LEAFLET: medium to long, medium to broad

FLOWERING: begins mid to late season on current season's cane
PEDUNCLE: weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
PEDICEL: very few to few spines
FLOWER: medium to large

Origin & Breeding History: 'BT Rasfour' originated from a cross between a proprietary female parent and a proprietary male parent in Borgo Valsugana, Trento, Italy in 2017. 'BT Rasfour' was selected in 2018 based on plant vigor and time of fruit ripening. 'BT Rasfour' was asexually propagated by root cuttings in Trento, Italy from 2018 to 2021.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘BT Rasfour' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number HMB 403, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Bundessortenamt, in Prufstelle Wurzen, Germany, from 2023 to 2024.
