Origin & Breeding History: 'Aya Elancourt' originated from a cross made in March 2010 at Ayaengei Co., Ltd. in Miyazaki, Japan between two proprietary Ranunculus asiaticus varieties. From October 2010 to March 2011, resulting seeds were cultured and a specific line was selected based on flower size, stalk straightness, number of gathered flowers and growth rate. A secondary selection was then made from the resulting progeny between October 2011 and March 2012. From October 2012 to March 2013, the lines selected in the secondary selection (3 strains per each selected line) were cultured and specific lines were selected based on the same criteria again. From October 2013 to March 2014, the lines selected in the tertiary selection (7 strains per each selected line) were cultured, their properties confirmed and they were named 'Aya Elancourt'.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Aya Elancourt' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 31118, purchased from the Plant Variety Protection Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Japan. The trials were conducted by the Center for Seeds and Seedlings at the Nishinihon Station in Ibaraki, Japan from 2018 to 2019. The colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
