Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Fizz 'n Pop' (Pretty in Pink)

Summary: The plants of 'Isopapi' are taller than those of 'Fizz 'n Pop'. The peduncle of 'Isopapi' is shorter than that of 'Fizz 'n Pop'. The corolla of 'Isopapi' is larger in diameter that that of 'Fizz 'n Pop'. The corolla lobe of 'Isopapi' is wider than that of 'Fizz 'n Pop'.

Description:

PLANT: upright narrow to upright bushy growth habit, few to medium number of branches

STEM: light to medium green, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium to strong glaucosity, absent or very sparse pubescence, medium sized diameter

LEAF: simple type
LEAF BLADE: narrow elliptic to linear shape, acuminate apex, attenuate to sessile base, laciniate margin, no variegation, no petiole
LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): sparse pubescence, weak glaucosity, medium to dark green
LEAF BLADE (LOWER SIDE): absent or very sparse pubescence, medium green

FLOWERING PERIOD: almost continuous, occurs mid-season, long
PEDUNCLE: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or very sparse pubescence
SEPAL: lanceolate shape, acuminate apex, medium recurvature of tip, entire margin, absent or very sparse pubescence on inner and outer side
FLOWER: solitary type
COROLLA: non-touching arrangement of lobes, single type, medium number of lobes
COROLLA LOBE: obovate shape, cuspidate apex, incurved tip, medim to light violet (RHS N80B-C and N75A), entire margin, very weak undulation of margin
COROLLA TUBE: white at transition to corolla lobe changing to yellowish green towards base, strong purple striping present

Origin & Breeding History: 'Isopapi' originated from a controlled cross conducted by Elke Steffen, an employee of Elsner pac Jungplanzen GbR, in the summer of 2012 in Dresden, Germany. Both parents are unnamed proprietary breeding lines that were part of a bulked group of breeding clones. 'Isopapi' was selected in the summer of 2013 in Dresden, Germany for its branching, flower colour and flower characteristics. 'Isopapi' was initially asexually propagated through vegetative cuttings in the summer of 2013 in Dresden, Germany.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Isopapi' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2021 at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 3.8 litre round pots on April 22, 2021. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on June 24, 2021. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
