Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: 'Nearly Wild'
Summary: 'Radrazz' is a shrub rose variety with a more upright growth habit than 'Nearly Wild' and a wider, darker green leaf. The main distinguishing characteristic is the colour of the buds and flowers. 'Radrazz' has much deeper pink flowers than 'Nearly Wild' and a smaller basal petal spot. There are more petals in the flowers of 'Radrazz' and the style is red, whereas the style of 'Nearly Wild' is pale yellow-green.
Description:
'Radrazz' is a shrub rose variety with an upright to bushy growth habit. The leaves are moderately glossy and usually have three to five leaflets. 'Radrazz' flowers almost continuously for 10 weeks or more. There are less than four flowers per flowering shoot. The bud is pointed and the sepal extensions are medium to strong. The flower is deep pink in colour and typically has 7 to 9 petals. The spots at the base of the outer and inner side of the petal are very small. 'Radrazz' has a red style.
Origin & Breeding History: 'Radrazz' originated from the cross between a seedling of the variety 'Carefree Beauty' and a 'Razzle Dazzle' seedling. The cross took place in Greenfield, Wisconsin. The selection criteria included hardiness, disease resistance, everblooming ability and attractiveness.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Radrazz' took place at Oxford Station, Ontario during the summer of 1999. The trials consisted of 15 plants per variety, planted in pots. Measured characteristics were based on a minimum of 10 measurements.
