Description:
'Noalesa' is a ground cover rose variety which has a trailing growth habit. The young shoot has absent to very weak anthocyanin colouration. The stem has a sparse number of short and long prickles which are deep concave in shape and yellow in colour. The leaves are medium green and have strong glossiness on the upper side. There are seven leaflets. The terminal leaflet has a denticulate margin and a leathery texture. The leaflet base is obtuse.
'Noalesa' flowers mid-season and flowers almost continuously for more than ten weeks. There are a low number of flowers per flowering shoot and the flower pedicel has a low number of hairs or prickles. The flower bud is pointed and sepal extensions are weak. The flower is round when viewed from above, flat on the upper part when viewed from the side and flat on the lower part when viewed from the side. The flower center is normal and the corolla is semi-double. 'Noalesa' has medium yellow flowers. The petals have a very small sized spot at the base of the inner and outer side. The petal margin has weak reflexing and medium undulation. The outer stamen has a yellow filament. The style is short, white and has no hairs on the upper half. The stigma is positioned at the same level as the anthers. The receptacle is small, pear shaped and has no prickles. The flower has a weak tea fragrance. 'Noalesa' is resistant to mildew and black spot.
Origin & Breeding History: 'Noalesa' originated from a cross made in early 1994 in Gutersloh, Germany between the female parent 'Korimro' and the male parent an un-named seedling. The selection criteria for 'Noalesa' were disease resistance, dark foliage, repeat flowering, flower colour that doesn't fade, propagates well, hardiness to zone 3-4, and vigorous compact growth habit.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Noalesa' were conducted in 2003 at Pan American Nursery Products Inc., Surrey, British Columbia. Five plants of each variety were grown in containers outdoors.
