Description:

'Poulpar029' is a miniature rose variety with an upright to bushy growth habit. Glossiness of the upper side of the leaves is absent. There are five to seven leaflets per leaf.

'Poulpar029' has an almost continuous flowering period which begins very early and lasts from four to six weeks. There is one flower per flowering shoot. The flower bud is ovoid in shape and the sepal extensions are weak. The double type flowers of 'Poulpar029' are red to dark purple red. There are small petal spots at the base of the petals on both the inner and outer sides. The petal spots on the inner side of the petals are white to yellow green and those on the outer side of the petals are white. The margin of the petals is strongly reflexed with no undulation. The colour of the style is purple. 'Poulpar029' is moderately resistant to mildew.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Poulpar029' originated from a controlled cross between 'KORstoffein' (Patricia Kordana) and an unnamed seedling which took place in Fredensborg, Denmark. The cross was made in the summer of 2000 and seeds were planted in December of that year. Seedling selection took place in the spring of 2001 at the Poulsen Roser A/S greenhouses in Fredensborg, Denmark. Selection of 'Poulpar029' was based on its ability to propagate on its own roots; the profusion of long lasting, red flowers; continuous flowering throughout the season under glasshouse conditions; suitability to container production techniques; and very compact, vigorous and uniform growth habit.

Tests & Trials: The test and trial for 'Poulpar029' was conducted at Aldershot of Canada Greenhouses located in Burlington, Ontario during the fall of 2003. All plants were cultivated under normal glasshouse conditions for a period of three months. The trial consisted of 15 10.5cm pots (four cuttings per pot) of each variety. The pots were spaced at 10 to 15 cm from each other. All colour characteristics were determined using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart and measured characteristics were based on six plant measurements.
