Variety used for comparison: 'Poulymp' (Olympic Palace)

Summary: The stems of 'Poulcy018' have a medium number of reddish prickles whereas the stems of 'Poulymp' have absent or very few to few yellowish prickles. The leaf of 'Poulcy018' is smaller with weak glossiness on the upper side whereas the leaf of 'Poulymp' has strong glossiness on the upper side. The flower of 'Poulcy018' is smaller in diameter with a greater number of smaller petals than the flower of 'Poulymp'.

TERMINAL LEAFLET: medium elliptic shape, obtuse base, acuminate apex

SEPAL: weak extensions
FLOWER BUD: medium ovate shape in longitudinal section, orange (closest to RHS 28C) with yellow orange (RHS 13C) at base
FLOWER: double type, yellow and orange colour group, dense petals, round shape when viewed from above, upper part is flat convex when viewed from the side, lower part is concave when viewed from the side, medium intensity of fragrance
PETAL: no reflexing one-by-one as flower opens, obovate shape, weak incisions at apex, one colour on inner side, intensity of colour of inner side is uniform, inner side is light yellow (darker than RHS 10A) with yellow orange (RHS 20B) tones towards margin fading with age to white (RHS 155A) with yellow green (RHS 4C) at base, no basal spot on inner side, colour of outer side is yellow orange (RHS 14C) with orange pink (RHS 29C) tones
OUTER STAMEN: filament predominantly medium yellow

Origin & Breeding History: 'Poulcy018' originated from a controlled cross conducted during the summer of 2000 at the breeding facilities of Poulsen Roser A/S in Fredensborg, Denmark, as part of a breeding program to hybridize rose varieties for commercial glasshouse and nursery culture. The cross involved two unnamed seedlings. The resultant seeds were planted in December 2000 and germinated during the winter and early spring. In the spring of 2002, one seedling was selected for its compact and vigorous growth when propagated on its own root, profusion of orange yellow flowers, suitability to open air nursery container culture, resistance to typical rose diseases, and as a climbing type rose with reduced apical dominance.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Poulcy018' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2014 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial consisted of a total of 8 plants of the candidate variety and 6 plants of the reference variety. All plants were grown from bare-rooted plants and transplanted into 13 litre containers on April 4, 2014. Unless otherwise indicated, observations and measurements were taken from 8 plants of the candidate variety and 6 plants of the reference variety, or 10 parts of plants of each variety on June 19, 2014. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
