Variety used for comparison: 'Poulhult' (Pas De Deux)

Summary: The main colour of the flower bud is yellow for 'Poulcy017' whereas the flower bud of 'Poulhult' is light yellow. The flower of 'Poulcy017' is a semi-double to double type whereas the flower of 'Poulhult' is a semi-double type. The flower of 'Poulcy017' has a greater number of larger petals than the flower of 'Poulhult'. The main colour of the inner side of the petal is yellow for 'Poulcy017' whereas the inner side of the petal is light red pink for 'Poulhult'.

TERMINAL LEAFLET: medium elliptic shape, rounded and cordate base, acuminate apex

SEPAL: weak to medium degree of extensions
FLOWER BUD: medium ovate shape in longitudinal section, yellow (RHS 6C)
FLOWER: semi-double to double type, yellow colour group, medium to dense petals, round shape when viewed from above, upper part is flat when viewed from the side, lower part is flattened convex when viewed from the side, medium intensity of fragrance
PETAL: no reflexing one-by-one as flowers open, obovate and obcordate shape, weak to medium depth of incisions at apex, absent or very weak reflexing of margin, weak to medium undulation, one colour on inner side, intensity of colour of inner side is uniform, inner side is yellow (RHS 5C), no basal spot on inner side, colour of outer side is not clearly different from colour of inner side
OUTER STAMEN: filament predominantly medium yellow

Origin & Breeding History: 'Poulcy017' originated from a controlled cross conducted during the summer of 2002 at the breeding facilities of Poulsen Roser A/S in Fredensborg, Denmark, as part of a breeding program to hybridize rose varieties for commercial glasshouse and nursery culture. The cross involved two unnamed seedlings. The resultant seeds were planted in December 2002 and germinated during the winter and early spring. In the spring of 2004, one seedling was selected for its compact and vigorous growth when propagated on its own root, profusion of yellow flowers, suitability to open air nursery container culture, resistance to typical rose diseases, and as a climbing type rose with reduced apical dominance.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Poulcy017' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2014 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial consisted of a total of 8 plants of the candidate variety and 6 plants of the reference variety. All plants were grown from bare-rooted plants and transplanted into 13 litre containers on April 4, 2014. Unless otherwise indicated, observations and measurements were taken from 8 plants or the candidate variety and 6 plants of the reference variety, or 10 parts of plants of each variety on June 17, 2014. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
