Origin & Breeding History: 'Novarospop' originated from the irradiation of in vitro cultures of the Rosa variety 'Meiggili' by gamma rays by the breeder Dr. Michael S. Dobres at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA in January 2007. The resultant cultures were rooted and transplanted in May 2007 and screened for novel phenotypes. The initial selection criteria were attractive flower colour, bushy, rounded growth habit, attractive foliage and resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust. The final selection of 'Novarospop' was made in September 2011 at the Conard-Pyle Co. greenhouse/nursery facilities in West Grove, Philadelphia, USA.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Novarospop' was conducted outdoors during the summer of 2015 at Variety Rights Management in Oxford Station, Ontario. The trial included a total of 12 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown in 22 cm pots spaced 45 cm apart. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety in mid-September 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
