The leaf of 'American Gold Rush' is grey green while it is medium green for R. fulgida var. deamii. The flower head diameter is very small for 'American Gold Rush' while the flower head diameter is small to medium for R. fulgida var. deamii.

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, short, dense, strong floriferousness

LEAF: very short to short, very narrow, high length to width ratio, grey green, broadest part towards apex, dense pubescence on upper surface, weak rugosity, absent or very shallow indentations of margin
PEDUNCLE: very short to short, very dense pubescence

RAY FLORET: ligulate type, horizontal attitude of basal part, flat in cross section, strongly reflexing, very short, very narrow, low length to width ratio, truncate apex, yellow orange (between RHS 17B and RHS 17C) on inner side

Origin & Breeding History: 'American Gold Rush' originated from an open pollinated cross between Rudbeckia fulgida var. deamiia, as the female parent and an unknown male parent that occurred in August 2010, in Hebron, Illinois, USA. 'American Gold Rush' was selected from the resulting seedlings in 2011, as a single unique plant, based on foliage colour, flowering profusion, flower size and colour.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'American Gold Rush' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, reference number HER 1450, purchased from The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB), Cambridge, United Kingdom in 2017. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
