Variety used for comparison: 'Velocity Blue'

Summary: The plants of 'G14251' are shorter than those of 'Velocity Blue'. The leaf blade of 'G14251' has a medium length to width ratio and is wider than that of 'Velocity Blue', which has a large length to width ratio. The upper side of the leaf blade of 'G14251' is dark green with strong glossiness while it is medium green with absent or very weak glossiness for 'Velocity Blue'. The outer side of the calyx of 'G14251' is violet blue with light violet blue at the base while that of 'Velocity Blue' is darker violet blue. The outer side of the upper lip of the corolla of 'G14251' is violet blue while that of 'Velocity Blue' is darker violet blue to blue violet.

Origin & Breeding History: 'G14251' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder, Richard A. Grazzini, an employee of GardenGenetics LLC in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA. The cross was made between the female parent variety 'G2X-31942' and an unnamed proprietary seedling as the male parent, in August 2013 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. On October 8, 2014, 'G14251' was selected at GardenGenetics LLC for its early and long flowering period, flower size, deep dark blue flower colour and garden performance. 'G14251' was first propagated by vegetative cuttings in October 2014 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'G14251' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2020 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. Plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15cm pots on April 20, 2020. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on June 10, 2020. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
