Summary: The plants of DWSAHYB03' are shorter than those of Lady in Red'. The leaf blade of DWSAHYB03' is shorter than that of Lady in Red'. The petiole of DWSAHYB03' is shorter than that of Lady in Red'. The corolla of DWSAHYB03' is larger than that of Lady in Red'. The lower lip of the corolla of DWSAHYB03' is wider than that of Lady in Red'.
Description:
PLANT: upright to semi-upright growth habit, medium density of shoots
STEM: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, sparse density of pubescence
LEAF BLADE: small length to width ratio, broadest part positioned strongly towards base, obtuse apex, cordate base, shallow to medium margin incisions, absent or very weak undulation of margin
LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): green, no variegation, sparse to medium pubescence, medium to strong rugosity, weak glossiness
INFLORESCENCE: few to medium number of florets per node, upright attitude of tip
BRACT: light yellow orange (RHS 158C) outer side, strong degree of persistence
CALYX (OUTER SIDE): light green (RHS 144B)
COROLLA TUBE (OUTER SIDE): dark red (RHS N45C)
COROLLA (UPPER LIP): medium red (RHS 45C), medium to dense pubescence
COROLLA (LOWER LIP): strongly downwards attitude relative to corolla tube, dark red (RHS 46B)
Origin & Breeding History: 'DWSAHYB03' originated from a controlled cross conducted in June of 2017 in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The cross was made between the female parent designated Campino Pitaya' and the male parent designated SunDome Pink'. The new variety 'DWSAHYB03' was selected in October of 2020 based on its plant habit, plant growth, flower colour, and flowering period. Asexual reproduction of 'DWSAHYB03' was first conducted by cuttings in October of 2020 in Mustang Ridge, Texas, USA.
Tests & Trials: Trials for 'DWSAHYB03' were conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2025 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants of the candidate and reference varieties. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 18, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on July 31, 2025. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
