The female parent was a Satureja mexicana plant and the male parent was a Hesperozygis species plant. The F1 seed was sown in Bonsall, California on February 10, 2000, and the new Saturozygis hybrid was selected as a single plant from the resultant progeny on May 12, 2000. The new variety was selected based on plant growth and habit, and flower characteristics. The first propagation by vegetative cuttings was made on July 1, 2000 in Bonsall, California, USA.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2007 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants of each variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 11cm pots on May 8, 2007. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety. All colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
